Althea Kippes Joins the Business Department

Professor Althea Kippes has been part of the Cañada College Paralegal Department for years, and will be teaching in the Business Department this upcoming semester. Althea will be teaching BUS 201: Business Law Online, LEGL 249: Introduction to the Legal System Online and LEGL: 252 Contracts this upcoming Fall 2018 Semester.

As an Attorney, Gerontologist and Real Estate Broker, Plaintiff’s Trial Lawyer and Federal Court Litigator, Althea litigates a number of high profile cases involving complex contract disputes, products liability, employment law, consumer matters, and animal law.  She has helped develop and expand the practice of animal law by drafting legislation and creating case precedent.

Althea has always enjoyed teaching and with her varied professional experiences, she is in a unique position to help others uncover their potential.  Teaching community college students is especially meaningful for her, because she remembers how difficult it was to navigate the educational system as the first person in her family to attend college.  The faculty, counselors, and staff who helped her during this time were instrumental in building the foundation that enabled her to be successful.  By teaching, she hopes to help others achieve their educational dreams.

In her free time, Althea enjoys traveling and learning about other cultures.  Someday she hopes to travel to Peru to visit Machu Picchu and climb the stairs leading up to the Sun Gate. She is fascinated by California history, especially the history of the Bay Area.

Althea graduated from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley and from Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco.  She has a Master’s degree in Gerontology from San Francisco State University.
