Become Our Student Speaker at Commencement! Apply by April 4

Are you a graduating student with a story to share? We're looking for the next voice to inspire and celebrate with our graduating class at Cañada College. Share your story on stage and apply to be our student speaker today. The deadline to submit your application deadline is Thursday, April 4 at Noon. Apply here. Please contact CANStudentLife@my.smccd.edu for questions.

Important FAFSA Updates – Priority Deadline is Today!

The Department of Education has implemented the FAFSA Simplification Act for 2024-2025. This means the FAFSA has undergone a major overhaul of its application process. Unfortunately, there have been significant challenges for students and families in completing the FAFSA due to issues in the application. We closely monitor the Department of Education’s 2024-2025 FAFSA Issue Alerts  for resolutions. However, do not let the challenges prevent you from starting and completing the 24-25 FAFSA. The priority deadline is April 2. If you plan to transfer to a four-year institution in Fall 2024, please review your new school’s financial aid website for more information. If you plan to attend SMCCCD in Fall 2024, please visit our FAFSA Simplification website for the most updated information. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Cañada Financial Aid Department.

Tutoring Services Available to Students

The end of the semester is quickly approaching! Students, if you need assistance with your courses, visit the Learning Center to receive help. They have tutors in a variety of subjects just waiting to help you! Here are a few things to note when using tutoring:

  1. The Tutoring Website is available at https://canadacollege.edu/learningcenter/tutoring.php. It has the current schedule of tutors (it is updated daily to show if a tutor will be in for their designated time), and links to make, reschedule, and attend appointments (directions are also provided). Also, there is information on how to best use tutoring.
  2. To receive tutoring service, learners must be enrolled in LCTR 698 (CRN: 46768). This is a zero-cost, zero-unit course that allows us to track tutoring usage (you will not see it on your transcript). If you are considering using tutoring services please be prepared to enroll (via WebSmart) on the day of your first tutoring session (drop in or appointment).
  3. You can now schedule tutoring appointments! You are able to schedule 30-minute tutoring sessions, either, virtually via Zoom or face to face in the Learning Center. Appointments must be made 12 hours in advance. Multiple no-shows for scheduled appointments may take away your scheduling privileges.
  4. Drop In tutoring (immediate, first come, first served tutoring service with no appointment needed) will only be available in the Learning Center as a face to face service. Virtual tutoring service, via Zoom, is available by appointment only.

For questions about tutoring, please contact the Tutor Coordinator, Julian Taylor.
