LGBTQ+ Resources and Support
Over Pride Month this summer, students, faculty and staff of The Brave Space Collective created a Queer and Fabulous Zine as a resource and support guide to support Cañada’s LGBTQ+ community. Check out the digital Zine here. As a reminder, Cañada College and SMCCCD is committed to supporting our LGBTQIA2SP+ community, and are aware of the high rates of discrimination, harassment and violence the community faces. To learn more about SMCCCD’s commitment and protection of our community, check out the LGBTQIA+ Title IX Protections.
If LGBTQ+ discrimination of a student occurs, Cañada’s Director of Equity, Dr. Michiko Kealoha, serves as the College's SB1491 Designee .
This means the Director of Equity serves as the designated point of
contact for the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, asexual, pansexual,
transgender, gender-nonconforming, intersex and two-spirit students.
Within their role as an SB1491 Designee, they are not a mandated
reporter. To contact our Director of Equity for confidential LGBTQ+
support, students may schedule an appointment here, email kealoham@smccd.ed u, call (650) 306-3373, or drop by Building 13, Room 111.
Red Cards & District Undocumented Community Resources
Wallet-sized “Red Cards” that explain how to safely assert your rights during interactions with immigration enforcement are available for pickup at the Undocumented Community Center. These cards are offered in multiple languages, including Spanish, English, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Chinese, Russian and Portuguese. These can also be printed from home here.
Additional resources can also be located on the website for the District’s Undocumented Community Resources and our Undocumented Community Center. The Undocumented Community Center is located in Building 9, Room 118 and open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
