A Note on Air Travel for Undocumented and Pending-Status Students

If you're undocumented or have a pending, lapsed or uncertain immigration status, please think carefully before flying domestically or internationally. ICE has stepped up activity at airports in 2026, leading to detentions of travelers with pending cases, including asylum applications, or with lapsed status. If travel is necessary, you may want to consult with an immigration attorney regarding your specific situation prior to travel. There are documents you should always carry as proof of legal status or pending applications, and these will vary depending on your status. Students should share their travel itinerary with someone they trust and who can assist them in case of an emergency or detention.

Cañada College’s Undocumented Community Center is available to help you think through travel plans before you book. Reach out to the Cañada College: Immigration Legal Clinic

If you are a current international student and have questions, please reach out to your Cañada College’s International Student Program (ISP) staff to help you think through travel plans before you book.  They can be reached at caninternational@smccd.edu, or 650-381-3544, or visit Building 9, Room 162.

Red Cards & Undocumented Community Resources

Wallet-sized “Red Cards” that explain how to safely assert your rights during interactions with immigration enforcement are available for pickup at the Undocumented Community Center. These cards are offered in multiple languages, including Spanish, English, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Chinese, Russian and Portuguese. These can also be printed. Visit the District’s Undocumented Community Resources  or stop by the Undocumented Community Center (Building 9, Room 118), open Monday – Thursday from 8 a.m.– 4:30 p.m.

Introducing the Pride Center!

The Office of Equity is excited to announce that the work of the Brave Space Collective is being rebranded as the Pride Center. This change reflects what students have shared: the need for a clear and familiar name for the LGBTQ+ support and community-building work happening on campus. Supported by dedicated staff and student leaders, the Pride Center will continue offering LGBTQ+ support events, LGBTQ+ trainings, gender-affirming clothing resources, connections to gender-affirming care, equity excursions, QTPOC speakers and more. Located in Building 17, Rooms 107 and 109, is space is shared with the Cultural Center to continue building intersectional work and build community across identities and experiences. To learn more about the hxstory of LGBTQ+ support, Explore our LGBTQ+ Support Timeline. And, come celebrate this hxstoric moment at the Pride Center Open House & Queer Social on August 26 at 10 a.m. in Building 17, Room 107.
