Meet Our Vice President of Instruction Finalists!
We invite you
to attend the Open Forums and meet our final candidates. The Open Forums are a
venue for the campus community to learn more about each finalist and engage in
a Q & A format with them. This also provides an opportunity for the candidates
to meet the outstanding students, staff, faculty and administration which make
our campus community so unique.

of the three days, student forums will be held from 11:15 a.m. – 12 p.m. (pizza

Biographies:
Mr.
Kurt Hueg - Tuesday, March 13
Mr. Kurt Hueg, Dean of the Business and Social
Sciences Division at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, is an experienced
community college leader with a diverse background and a passion for
innovation, teaching and student success. As a leader in the development of high-quality
online learning programs and a part-time business instructor, Hueg’s Division
has grown to offer over 500 fully online courses each year, 10 fully online
associate degrees and eight fully online associate degrees for transfer. Prior
to becoming a Dean, Hueg was a successful marketing and communications
professional who served as an Associate Vice President of External Relations
and Director of Marketing and Communications for Foothill College. Having
worked in many facets of community college leadership, Hueg is focused on
improving student equity in all learning modalities and finding new ways to
create classroom engagement and support for students on the margins of success.
Hueg recently served as the Acting Vice President of Instruction for Foothill
College and has expertise in enrollment management, curriculum development,
governmental relations, accreditation, technology, and public relations. As
Dean of the Business and Social Sciences Division, he supervises the largest
academic division at Foothill College, comprising the departments of
accounting, anthropology, business, child development, education, economics,
geography, geospacial technology, history, Learning in New Media Classrooms
(LINC), philosophy, political science, psychology, special education, sociology
and women’s studies.
Hueg holds a master’s degree in business
administration from Santa Clara University and a bachelor’s degree in political
science from UCLA. He transferred to UCLA from Saddleback College, where he
studied journalism.
Dr.
Char Perlas - Wednesday, March 14
Dr.
Char Perlas is a first generation Filipino-American and, former community
college student, whose focus has been on increasing the educational
opportunities of disproportionately impacted students. She has witnessed
firsthand the challenges of navigating through the California Community College
system and, it’s this experience that fuels her passion to work with community
college students. Dr. Perlas has 18 years of professional experience in the
California Community College system, serving in roles as tenured instructor,
program manager, accreditation lead and administrator. Currently, Dr. Perlas
serves as the Dean of Science and Math at Chabot College. The Science and Math
Division is the largest division at Chabot comprising of over 120 Full-time/Part-Time
faculty and 164 FTEF annually. Since serving as the Dean, her Division has
consistently exceeded enrollment and productivity targets. Dr. Perlas’s
previous positions include: Dean of Workforce Development, Applied Sciences and
Math at College of Alameda and the following positions at Mission College:
Director of MESA (Math Engineering Science Achievement), Division Chair of
Student Services and Student Learning Outcomes Coordinator. Additionally, Dr.
Perlas serves as the administrative lead for the following initiatives: 17-19
Integrated Plan, Non-Credit Instruction, AB 705, Basic Skills Student Outcomes
Transformation, and Gender Equity Taskforce.
Dr.
Perlas is actively involved in her community. She is currently a mentor for
Girls Inc. of the Island City and a member of the American Association of
University Women. She takes pride in building relationships with community
partners and looks forward to strengthen linkages among CBOs, Industry and
Cañada College. Dr. Perla holds a Ph.D. in Education with an emphasis on
Leadership for Higher Education from Capella University, Minneapolis, MN, a
Master of Public Administration with an emphasis on Organizational Change from
California State University, East Bay, a Master of Science in Counseling with
an emphasis on School Counseling, PPS Credential from California State
University, Sacramento and a Bachelor of Art in Psychology from California
State University, Fresno.
Dr.
Tammy Robinson - Thursday, March 15
Dr. Tammy Robinson has
served as the Dean of Global Learning Programs and Services and is currently
the Dean of Social Science and Creative Arts at Skyline College in San Bruno,
California. Dr. Robinson has over twenty years of experience as a
community college administrator and faculty member. Her most recent position
was as interim Vice President of Academic Services Services/Athletic
Director/CIO at Lassen Community College in Susanville, California. She was
also the Department Chair of English/ESL/Linguistics Department at Los Angeles
City College in Los Angeles California.
Dr. Robinson holds a
Doctorate in Education with an emphasis in Community College Administration
from the University of Southern California, a Master of Arts degree in English
with an emphasis in Rhetoric and Composition from California State University,
Dominguez Hills, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the
University of California, Los Angeles and an Associate of Arts degree in Social
Science from Cerritos College.
