Today’s Outdoor Food Distribution Cancelled Due to Inclement Weather. Food Pantry Open This Week

Due to inclement weather, Second Harvest Food Bank of Silicon Valley has cancelled today’s outdoor Food Distribution in Lot #6. However, the SparkPoint Food Pantry will still be open this week Tuesday through Thursday between 12-4 p.m. The Food Pantry is located in Building 5, Room 202.

Cañada also offers many late-start classes that are open for registration. Check out Late-Start Classes on WebSchedule to see what late-start classes are available. 

 

Apply for Spring 2023 Degree and Certificate

The last day for students to apply for their Spring 2023 Degree and Certificate and be included in the Commencement program is Friday, April 7, 2023. Counseling appointments are available for students to get assistance in submitting their application. Please schedule an appointment through the Student Success Link portal or by contacting the Welcome Center at (650) 306-3452 or canadawelcomecenter@smccd.edu. We recommend that students make an appointment as soon as possible. Note: Students applying after Friday, April 7, 2023, may still participate in the Commencement ceremony, however, name will not appear in the commencement program.

 

Community Paint Days for the Cañada College Mural

The time has arrived! Cañada College’s historic first mural is ready to be painted by YOU. Come be a part of this milestone and join in on community paint days. Everyone is welcome!

You can learn more about our mural’s history and sign up for community paint days here. We also acknowledge that weather is always changing, so to consider everyone's safety, health, time and commute, our Mural Committee will announce at 4 p.m. the night before a Community Paint Day if a paint session is canceled due to inclement weather conditions.

Cañada Athletic Center is Hiring Student Ambassadors

Are you passionate about health and fitness? If so, Cañada College Athletic Center and College of San Mateo College Athletic Center are hiring for student Front Desk positions. We offer flexible hours to work with your class schedule. Weekday and weekend shifts are available. Join us for a fun working environment with plenty of room for growth and free access to the gym on working days. Pay starts at $19.12/hour. 

Requirements:

  • Must be an SMCCCD Student enrolled in 6+ units and over 18 years old.  
  • Leadership and customer service experience preferred
  • Cash handling experience preferred

Students in this role are expected to work primarily at the Front Desk of either Cañada College Athletic Center or College of San Mateo (or both). They must learn and adhere to facility protocols and the guidelines set by Community Fitness. All Student Ambassadors are required to go through CPR and safety training. They are knowledgeable in their own department as well as in several others: aquatics, personal training, Group Exercise, membership, billing, and so much more to be able to provide excellent customer service to a diverse population.

Save the Dates and Submit Questions for VPI Finalist Forums

Please save the dates for the upcoming Campus Forums (held both in-person and over Zoom) to meet the finalist candidates for our Vice President of Instruction. The forums will be held the on Monday, March 20 and Tuesday, March 21; times of the Forums will be announced soon. For our campus community members who are unable to attend the live forums, recordings will be available for viewing after the forums conclude. We are also collecting questions to ask the finalist candidates at the Forums and invite the campus community to submit questions for consideration here by 12 p.m. on Friday, March 17. All feedback will remain confidential.

Cañada Athletic Center Aquatics Department is Hiring!

Aquatics at Cañada Athletic Center is hiring lifeguards and swim instructors. Your work schedules are catered to your school or athletic schedule. You must be Red Cross Lifeguard Certified, and we hold certification courses every 4-6 weeks. The Red Cross Lifeguard certification is free if you work with CSM-AC or CAN-AC. Classes are normally $375–$400 around the Bay Area!

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Able to swim 300 yards (12 laps) of freestyle or breaststroke without stopping.
  • Tread water for 2 minutes using only your legs.
  • Swim 20 yards, dive to a depth of 7 feet, retrieve a 10-pound weight, and then swim 20 yards on the surface, holding the weight with two hands.
  • (Swim instructor) Teaching experience.

Spring 2023 Registration is Open and it's FREE!

Registration is open to all students for the Spring 2023 Semester. You can view the schedule of courses now on WebSchedule and register for courses on WebSMART. The Spring 2023 Semester is free, and Cañada will waive enrollment fees for students who reside in San Mateo County. Some exceptions apply; see our Free College FAQ for more information.
