Get Ready to Celebrate: Commencement is This Saturday!

Dear Cañada Community,

We’re thrilled to honor and celebrate our amazing graduates at the 57th Annual Commencement Ceremony this Saturday, May 24 at 10 a.m. on the Upper Lawn at Cañada College!

Let's make the day unforgettable - here’s everything you need to know to prepare:

Weather Forecast

It’s shaping up to be a mild spring day! Expect a high of 60 degrees with breezy winds at 10-12 MPH. Be sure to bring a light jacket, sunglasses, protective hat and sunscreen to stay comfortable throughout the celebration.

Parking

Parking is free in all student lots - no permit needed! All other parking and traffic rules apply. Check out Maps, Directions & Parking for details.

Graduate Check-In

Grads, please check in starting at 9 a.m. in The Grove (Building 5) and arrive no later than 9:30 a.m. to ensure you’re ready for the procession.

Attire

This is a special occasion! Wear formal or business-casual attire under your gown - but skip the heels (they’ll sink into the lawn). Please do not bring any handbags, purses, or other items with you as no storage will be available.

Cap Decorations

Celebrate your achievement with a decorated cap - just keep it festive and appropriate (no profanity or offensive language).

Prohibited Items:

To ensure everyone enjoys the ceremony, please do not bring:

  • Balloons
  • Confetti
  • Signs
  • Blowhorns/noisemakers
  • Umbrellas, selfie sticks, or mini tents
  • Ice coolers
  • Canopies
  • Glass bottles

Remember that this is an alcohol, drug and smoke-free event. Guests with any of these items will be asked to leave.

First Aid

A First Aid Station will be available in Building 9, Room 154. Don’t forget to stay hydrated - bring water!

Photos

Professional photographers will capture each graduate’s big moment as they cross the stage. Photos will be available for purchase after the event and grads will receive an email with information on how to purchase photos. There is no obligation to purchase.

Souvenirs & Snacks

Celebrate with keepsakes and refreshments:

  • The Bookstore will have graduation mementos (sashes, tassels, pennants, t-shirts and more).
  • Pony Espresso will serve hot and cold beverages.

New Way to Access Student Email & Enhanced Account Security

On May 27, we’re launching two essential upgrades that make accessing your student tools easier and safer.
  1. You will sign in using your student email using My.SMCCCD OneLogin — no need to enter your Student Gmail username and password.
  2. After signing into OneLogin, you will prompted to set up multi factor authentication (MFA) to help keep your account secure.

What is “MFA”, and Why Does It Matter?

Multifactor authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security to your account by requiring something you know (your password) and something you have (like your phone). Even if someone gets your password, they can’t access your account without that second step.

It’s one of the easiest and most effective ways to protect your personal info — like your class schedule, financial aid, and email — and now it’s built right in through OneLogin to help keep you safe. The use of MFA on your accounts makes you 99% less likely to be hacked.

What Can I Do to Prepare?

Make sure your personal email address and phone number are current:

Need Help?

We will share additional support resources and tutorials before May 27. If you have any questions, please contact our Student Help Center.
