Campus Tours
The Outreach Program Office is excited to offer in-person campus tours! The tours have been updated to incorporate the newest buildings and enhancements to our campus, including a sneak peek of our brand new, state-of-the-art, Kinesiology & Wellness Building. One-hour tours will be offered beginning the week of September 28, 2021 and scheduled for Tuesdays at 3 p.m., Thursdays at 12 p.m. and Fridays at 10 a.m. Sign up for a tour here. These tours are intended for our Cañada College community. Tours for the public will be scheduled in the coming months.

Constitution Day Part 2: Day of Dialog

Get ready for Constitution Day with this two-part series. Here you’ll get to learn about the Constitution in a fun and informative way! Constitution Day will promote Cañada College’s Anti-racism values and highlight the 1619 project which aims to reframe the country’s history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at the very center of our national narrative. On this day we observe Constitution Day by highlighting that no aspect of the country that would be formed here has been untouched by the years of slavery that followed.

STEM Speaker Series: Creating Opportunities for Others through STEM!

The featured speaker is Dr. Ameer Thompson, Dean of Science and Technology at Cañada College. Prior to his work at Cañada, Dr. Thompson served as the interim Dean of Natural, Social, and Applied Sciences at Contra Costa College, Founding Director of the Saint Mary’s College of California, Hispanic-Serving Institution– STEM program and adjunct faculty at Diablo Valley College (DVC), where he taught Human Physiology. As a Bay Area native, Dr. Thompson attended DVC before completing a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences at California State University, Sacramento. Dr. Thompson received a Ph.D. in physiology, biophysics and systems biology from Cornell University. Dr. Thompson has published works in several high impact scientific journals including Nature Structure and Molecular Biology and PNAS. He is the recipient of a number of awards including the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship and the Ford Foundation Fellowship. He also has a robust history of community service and educational outreach to underserved communities.
Writing Center Workshop: Getting Started with Essay Assignments

In this workshop, all students can learn about the first steps of writing an effective essay. We will cover how to break down an essay assignment and prompt, tackle procrastination, and craft a powerful working thesis statement. Bring your essay assignments!
